Car Week 3 Progress

Image
The 3rd week has concluded for the car project, and I and happy with the progress I have made. There has been some rather significant changes in the model, including the workflow regarding it, and the reference itself.  I have been given permission to change the Countach from the LP400 model, to that of the LP500. The primary changes between these two models, is the removal of the roof engine mounted intakes. Where the side meets the undercarriage is less pronounce, as well as the the actual frame of the vehicle being more square like. Basically, its a more bare boney version, relative to the LP400 After removing the air intakes, I spent time fixing the geometry around that area so it worked smoother with the rest of the body. These changes might all sound minor, but they have major impacts on the overall design of the vehicle, and the future details I will be adding to it. Here you can see both the old and newer models side by side: I also resolved around 90% pf tje triangl...

Car Week 2 Progress

Image
The majority of this week I spent improving the general mesh of the car. Specifically getting the mesh to be less blocky. I did not add to many edge loops to the build, as I wanted to keep it lower to more easily manipulate the car, but more importantly be able to easily cut out sections like the hood and bumpers later on. I also added a backplate behind the wheels. The underside of the car wont be modeled, but this portion of the bottom can be seen from the sides. This will be made a bit nicer in the future, but it was primarily needed now as to clearly indicate that there is portions of the model their, that aren't part of the cars main body. I added some minor extrusions and edge loops to the part of the body that meets the tire frame. This was so that the frame remains intact after smoothing and subdividing the car. This was also done where the side of the cockpit meets the lower body, as well as where the window frames meet the roof. Speaking of windows, they have been remove...

Car Week 1 Progress

Image
This week went pretty well, and I'm happy to say that I have not run into any major issues so far on the car project. The care I will be modeling is the Lamborghini Countach, specifically the LP400 which was made between 1971-1974. The first think I did was get blueprints so I could accurately model the car. This by no means is a rare or uncommon vehicle, so finding material on it was not difficult. I located abundance of reference, that will help me accurately model the vehicle. I did find rather peculiar is that the color variety the car comes in is in the single digits. Normally with high end sports cars you get quite a spectrum, so this was interesting to see.  Next I made a cub (more visible in the picture above) and imported the exact measurements of the vehicle. Once I had the right dimensions, I created 4 addition orthographic cameras. One for the roof, side, back, and front. I switched my modeling measurements settings from meters to inches, so I could ...

Lego Car: Part 2

Image
Progress has been less then significant since the first recap. I have prioritized more time sensitive classes over this assignment, and plan on doing significant work days starting the 28th. That being said I still have  worked on the project. What was crucial to me was getting the fundamental brick down, along with its associated stud. Previously I had completed around 9 of the bricks, but they weren't at a quality I was happy with, and I also learned a lot while actually making those pieces. Deleting those pieces, I started from scratch and starting making the 1x1 brick again. This turned out very well, and this quarter had roughly 70 tries, meaning a normal completed brick would be just under 300, which seemed decently well optimized to me.  In fact, this was over 4x more efficient then my first brick shown in the original post. Its pretty simple right? I was able to optimize the brick significantly while still keep the tris to a far smaller count. Here it is after I ...

Starting the Lego Car

Image
Alright, so this is week 1 progress of the Lego Car. I can't say I have spent a significant amount of time on this project as of yet, but I did begin some work on the modular components. The pieces I did start on were the traditional bricks These include: 1x1 1x2 1x3 1x4 2x2 2x4 I need to double check, but I believe these are all the traditional sized bricks that will be used in this model. If I have missed one, it would most likely be a 2x3, but it would not be particularly difficult to make. Seeing the wireframe overload onto the models, you can see that there's a decent amount of edge loops. These were put in to help alight objects like the center stud, and keep the bricks form when smoothed. That being said, I do think some of them are excessive, maybe even a solid 1/3. But if I want to reduce geometry later on, it it will be easy to do so, as these are all complete loops. As you can see in the true wireframe, there are no additional faces within the actual models. All of ...
